Professional Skills:

Adrianna has been asking relevant questions eg. how she can assist in the classroom. Also try to gain an understanding of the children eg. asks why certain steps were taken between siblings who share the same program and still respectful. eg. confidentiality with connection to sensitive cases. did not pry to find out.

Practical Skills: She is gaining confidence in regards to working with children who need extra support. She would interact more with a smaller calmer group. Would observe more closely, how the teachers would redirect support children who for. eg. were dis regulated.

Next Steps: Grow in confidence in how to support a classroom that needs extra support. What resources/ Tools could be implemented to support children who might be dysregulated.

Professional skills: Adrianna communicated what she planned for circle time this morning. had brought in materials that could be used inside and in the outside environment.

Practical skill: Participated in leading circle time. Brought in a drum and shared how to hold the drum in a respectively, instructed with patience and simplicity. (Direct in her communication). The children were also able to independently drum, once in a while she would guide them, gently placing her hand over theirs explaining why she was doing this. The children were engaged and enjoyed as she shared her indigenous culture through song and drumming.

Pedagogical Skills: Adrianna had planned an art activity to be done outside. Prepared all the material that was needed. Made “Natural Crowns” we had a discussion regarding the planning process. She was open to suggestions- that in future children could find the natural materials eg. flowers. to add to their crafts. she was open to this idea and seems very open minded to ways to extend the children’s experience in nature. – went for a walk open to looking for natural materials to add to the act activity.

Next Steps:

Involve the children fully in the process.

Professional Skills: Adrianna took the initiative to calmly join the children in their play. 1st as an observer than collaborator,, facilitating growth in their play. (eg. facilitating stick play and esp. building and combining the soils with rope).

Practical Skills: Adrianna was outside today with 2 children followed the lead and interest of the children. they gathered sticks, she then went with them to look for rope. The children started the process and Adrianna helped tie up the sticks with rope. Noticed the children lost interest and Adrianna continued tying up the rope as the children sat and chatted.

Pedagogical Skills: Adrianna observed and listened to the children’s need to build, followed through in extending on their ideas or thoughts e.g building a “hotdog fireplace” one of the children commented “doing small things” Adrianna repeated their words.

Next Steps:

  • Continue building on children’s interest, could be extended to the next day or weeks activities. discussions could ask open ended questions e.g “What else could we do with this rope?” ect.
  • encourage children to be involved support them growing in their confidence and abilities e.g trying rope around the sticks, building with the sticks.
