Learning Outcome
September 23 – Not all children need to nap. set up a busy bin area that children can play with once rest time is finished. Rest time is 30 minutes. They children will play quietly by their beds by themselves until its table top time.
September 24- quotes to remember “Tummy to table when you eat your food”. “We sit down before we put food in our mouths”.
September 25 – Learning what children’s needs are. If there is a big enough centre sometimes siblings should be separated. But remember to accommodate them because they are still siblings and need time together. R.O doesn’t like hearing the 5 minute warning so they need to find another way to accommodate them to help with transitions.
September 26 – Children use their imagination when they want to. However one child asked what is imagination. I had to explain that when a child brought me grass, rocks and a red piece of yarn and said it’s red pasta. another child said that’s not red pasta. I had to explain what imagination is. Note- Would be good to do something around teaching about imagination and what our imaginations could do to help us play and explore.
A child was sitting and leaning on the couch that wasn’t safe. The teacher says “When you lean on the chair like that you may top over. Then it may fall over and squish you. I don’t want you to get hurt. I want to keep you safe.” Child proceeds to do again. “I see you are still doing that to the chair this is a conscious decision you are making if you get hurt that is a conscious choice”
This has taught be that you are teaching the child why it is not safe. what happens if they still continue to do what they are doing. You then tell them that their actions they are doing are conscious decisions because you explained what could happen if they continued.
-Declutter
-Spacial awareness
- less is more
- having the space have meaning
- being conscious about what is out and what is on the shelf.
September 29 –
Documentation – Why is it important
- incase you go to court it helps remember
- to help a child if they are in the process of being diagnosed
- keep track of behaviour maybe we can see a pattern and it will help us change what we need to for the future to help the child
Learning different ways to get anger out.
- run it off
- jump it out
- kick the ball as hard as you can
- offer food
Workshops – Explosive child, circle of serenity
October 1 – Children that have a lot of energy giving them positive feedback when they were able to calm their bodies during rest time. This does not mean they need to keep still but having improvements on calming themselves more.
Letting the child come into the classroom with their own stuffy. Have their stuffy sit down for snack with us. serving their stuffy snack. This child likes to have their space more than other children. Learn what each Childs needs are and help them. Some children like to help the teachers more, let the child help.
Be more prepared with crafts. Some children want to make their family members (crowns, bracelets) [why can’t they? they should be able to. think ahead and if the child is interested in doing the craft and interested in doing more for their family be prepared]
October 2
Go with the group you have, through out the years adapt with the class and group you have. Each year with each group of children it is not going to be the same. Some children need the 5 minute warning. This group doesn’t like to clean up before eating. let them tidy a little and come have snack. when snack is over they can finish cleaning. Do not make this group come and sit down to eat. give them the option. snack is open if you want snack go wash up and come sit down. 5 more minutes to the child that is still playing before snack is closed and you will not be able to have snack after. This seems to help them and when they hear that they either chose to continue playing saying they are still full or come and rush over to wash their hands.
October 3, 2025
Singing for transitions. “3 to 5. Can you hear me? snack is ready. snack is ready. 5 more minutes until snack is closed. 5 more minutes until snack is closed”. Find games to play outside. – ex. have the teaches standing a distance away from each other. Have the children run from teacher to teacher giving them directions. run to ____; hop to ____; gallop to____; crawl to _____. When children are fighting over toys. have the children communicate with each other ex. please stop I don’t like that. I need more space.. can revert to the song.
Maybe have emergency books on hand- put aside (sharing, handwashing, being kind)
October 7
How can we increase communication. An accident happened at home. but not all teachers were informed. L hit her chin at home and got stitches. L’s teachers that heard about the incident didnt tell the teacher the next day. the teacher brought the child outside with the other kids from the other classrooms. a different teacher from another classroom seen L fall on the ground and seen blood coming from her chin. They thought this was a new cut however I was in the classroom washing dishes at the time and was able to inform them what happened to L. She ended up going home and went to the hospital. but didn’t need stitches.
